Our Haunted Home
Years ago, my wife and I moved into an old farmhouse. Our son was four at the time. I rented the house mainly because of the old chicken barn, which was perfect for my antiques and refinishing business. The house itself was a bonus—I could literally walk to work.
Soon after moving in, all of us began feeling uneasy in the home, though oddly, I slept soundly there for the first time in years. Normally, because of my gifts, I’m a very light sleeper, always picking up on energies around me. I later realized that my senses were already connecting to spirits wanting to communicate.
One day, while working in my shop, I inexplicably walked upstairs to a pile of old boxes that had been there since we moved in. I opened one, reached inside, and pulled out something I immediately recognized—the oldest Ouija board I had ever seen. A friend who worked with me suggested we try it, not knowing my growing awareness of the house’s energy. From that moment, both of us began being contacted by numerous spirits over the next few years.
The first spirit I connected with was a man who was well-spoken but not formally educated. He told me that I was living on the site of the area’s original settlement—the Martin family farm—and insisted on being called Mr. Martin. He acted as a kind of moderator for other spirits present on the land. There were six main spirits who remained nearby: Mr. Martin, an Indigenous woman, several Martin family members from over the years, and a woman who called herself a witch.
These spirits communicated with me in many ways. They would warn me when people were coming to the house and alert me to dangers—once literally saving me during a tornado by guiding me to the ditch in time. Over the years, my connection to the spirits grew stronger, and eventually, the Ouija board was no longer necessary; my own gifts became the doorway. Even now, I can feel the energy when passing by that old farm.
A Word of Caution:
Do not use a Ouija board lightly. In the hands of a novice, they can be very dangerous, opening a portal to any spirit—good or bad. While I have shared my experiences and helped others who have used them, these boards are sold as novelty toys and can cause serious harm if misused.
Additionally, when used in a group, the effect of a Ouija board can be amplified if one or more participants have psychic gifts. This can lead to anything from simple spirit communication to poltergeist activity, such as objects moving unexpectedly.
